das Modalverb

In English: modal verb

The six verbs können, müssen, wollen, dürfen, sollen, mögen (with möchten). They say whether an action is possible, necessary, wanted or allowed. The modal is conjugated in second position, and the other verb goes to the end as an infinitive without zu.

Example: Ich muss heute lange arbeiten. (I have to work late today.)
