In English: auxiliary verb (helping verb)
A verb that helps another verb build a tense or the passive. German has three: haben and sein for the Perfekt and the Plusquamperfekt, werden for the future and the passive.
Example: Ich habe gegessen. Sie ist gekommen. Es wird regnen.
