Tenses and moods

das Perfekt

In English: present perfect (the spoken past)

The past tense of everyday conversation, built with haben or sein in the present plus the Partizip II at the end. Careful: it does not carry the special meaning of the English present perfect. It usually translates as a simple past.

Example: Gestern habe ich einen Kuchen gebacken. (Yesterday I baked a cake.)
