Text and style

der Nominalstil

In English: nominal style (noun-heavy style)

A way of writing that packs information into nouns and prepositional phrases instead of verbs and subordinate clauses. It is typical of academic, administrative and news texts: dense and formal. The opposite, with more verbs, is the Verbalstil.

Example: Nach Abschluss der Prüfung erhalten Sie ein Zeugnis. (= Nachdem Sie die Prüfung abgeschlossen haben, ...)
