In English: infinitive clause (zu, um ... zu)

A clause without a subject of its own, built with zu plus the infinitive at the end. With separable verbs, zu goes inside the verb (anzurufen). Um ... zu expresses a purpose („in order to“), ohne ... zu means „without doing“, statt ... zu „instead of doing“.

Example: Ich lerne Deutsch, um in Berlin zu studieren.
