der Konjunktiv I
In English: subjunctive I (the reporting mood)
A verb form used mostly in the news and in formal writing to report what someone else said without taking responsibility for it. It is built on the infinitive stem: er habe, sie komme, er sei. English has no equivalent form.
Example: Die Trainerin sagt, das Team sei gut vorbereitet.
