das trennbare Verb

In English: separable verb

A verb with a stressed prefix (an-, auf-, aus-, ein-, mit-, zu-...) that splits off and goes to the end of a main clause. In the Partizip II, -ge- goes between the prefix and the verb: angerufen.

Example: Der Zug kommt um neun Uhr an. (ankommen)
