das Pronominaladverb

In English: da-compound (darauf, damit, dafür)

A word made of da (or dar before a vowel) + a preposition. It replaces a preposition + pronoun when you speak of a thing or an idea: darauf, damit, darüber. For a person, German keeps the preposition + pronoun: auf ihn, mit ihr.
