Verbs

das Partizip I

In English: present participle

The form made of the infinitive plus -d: lachend, spielend. It is used mostly as an adjective (with adjective endings) for an action going on at the same time. Unlike English -ing, it is never used to build a tense.

Example: Das schlafende Kind hört nichts. (The sleeping child hears nothing.)
