die Adjektivdeklination

In English: adjective endings (strong, weak, mixed)

An adjective in front of a noun takes an ending. After der, die, das the endings are weak (-e or -en). After ein, kein, mein they are mixed: the adjective shows the gender where ein has no ending. Without an article they are strong: the adjective carries the ending of the article.

Example: der alte Baum, ein alter Baum, frisches Brot
