das Relativpronomen

In English: relative pronoun (who, which, that)

The pronoun that opens a relative clause: der, die, das, and forms such as den, dem, denen, dessen, deren. Its gender and number come from the noun it refers to; its case comes from its job inside the relative clause. It can never be left out.
