Sentence
die Negation (nicht / kein)
In English: negation
German has two main words for „not“. Kein negates a noun that has ein or no article, and takes the same endings as ein. Nicht negates everything else: it goes to the end of the clause to negate the whole sentence, or right before the element it negates.
Example: Ich habe keinen Hunger. Ich komme heute nicht.
