In English: the letter ß (sharp s)

A letter that sounds like ss. It is written after a long vowel or a double vowel sound (Straße, heißen), while ss follows a short vowel (muss, Wasser). Switzerland does not use it and always writes ss.

Example: Ich heiße Lena und wohne in der Goethestraße.
