Verbs

die Valenz

In English: valency (what a verb requires)

The set of elements a verb needs to make a complete sentence, and the case of each one. Schlafen needs only a subject, sehen needs an accusative object, geben needs a dative and an accusative. Learning a verb means learning its valency.

Example: Ich gebe dem Kind einen Apfel. (geben + dative + accusative)
